Governor's Office of Homeland Security Training Opportunities

California National Guard Homeland Security Directorate Training

The mission of the Homeland Security Training Branch is to support the Weapons of Mass Destruction First Responder community of California by providing training referrals, exercise support and the coordinated delivery of training and training materials. Through partnerships with federal, state and local training providers, the California Military Department will ensure the widest possible access to WMD training for first responders throughout California, enhance the local delivery of training and exercises, and coordinate a comprehensive, inclusive statewide training strategy.

CDC Clinician Outreach and Emergency Preparedness The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has established partnerships with national clinician organizations for the purpose of timely communication of information on disease outbreaks and terrorism events.

California Preparedness Education Network (cal-PEN) is a project of the statewide California Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program funded through HRSA's Bioterrorism Training and Curriculum Development Program. An innovative statewide educational network, Cal-PEN addresses gaps in preparedness education for healthcare professionals working in rural and underserved areas and caring for the state's most vulnerable populations. Cal-PEN has partnered with University of California Television (UCTV) to conduct continuing education via satellite broadcast and asynchronous webcast in the areas of bioterrorism and other public health emergencies. Cal-PEN, the California Preparedness Education Network, is a program of the California Area Health Education Center under HRSA grant #T01HP01405.

HAZMAT for First Receivers OSHA requires hospitals to provide a minimum of 8 hours of training to staff who are expected to decontaminate victims or handle victims before they are thoroughly decontaminated. Clinicians and non-clinicians from both Medical Center and campus are eligible to take this training. Preregistration is required and may be done by through online registration.

FEMA Emergency Management Institute

CDC Training Site includes training modules for Public Health/Clinical Training, Laboratory Training, Introductory Materials. Subjects covered include anthrax, smallpox, influenza, bioterrorism.

Neighborhood Emergency Response Training (NERT) SF Fire Dept. - Individuals learn hands-on disaster skills that will help them as members of an emergency response team and/or as a leader directing untrained volunteers during an emergency, allowing them to act independently or as an adjunct to City emergency services
